Rich Results

Rich snippets, carousels, Knowledge Panels – how structured data turns a plain result into a visually rich block and improves CTR.

In brief

Rich Results is the umbrella term for enhanced search result elements (Rich Snippets, carousels, FAQ, How‑to, Knowledge Panels) generated from validated Schema.org structured data.

Types of Rich Results

Google supports dozens of enhanced result types. The most popular:

  • Products (Product) – price, availability, stars, image.
  • Recipes (Recipe) – cooking time, calories, photo.
  • FAQ – expandable Q&A.
  • HowTo – step‑by‑step with images.
  • Videos (VideoObject) – preview, duration.
  • Jobs (JobPosting) – salary, location, company.
  • Knowledge Panel – brand or person info.

How to get a Rich Result

Three mandatory conditions:

  1. Valid Schema.org markup in JSON‑LD format.
  2. Error‑free validation with the Google Rich Results Test.
  3. Content matching the markup and Google's quality guidelines.

After implementation, request re‑crawling in Search Console and wait for re‑indexing.

Difference from Rich Snippets

Rich Snippets are a subset of Rich Results, limited to an ordinary snippet (title, description) enhanced with extra info (stars, price). Rich Results also encompass carousels, Knowledge Panels, and other formats beyond a single snippet.

Common questions

Common types: products, recipes, FAQ, How‑to, videos, jobs, Knowledge Panels. See the Google search gallery for the complete list.
Enter the URL into the Google Rich Results Test. It shows which rich results are detected and any errors.
Not directly, but they significantly boost CTR, which improves user signals and can indirectly support better rankings.
In rare cases Google may extract data from other sources (e.g., Knowledge Graph), but for reliable results structured data markup is essential.
